The Jefferson City Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce that it will again sponsor its Missouri Student Piano Auditions, the winner of which will have the opportunity to perform a major piano work with the Jefferson City Symphony Orchestra on its final concert of the 2008-2009 Jefferson City Community Concert Association series, April 28, 2009. An honorarium of $500 will be awarded to the winner of the competition along with hotel and food expenses.Ê The hotel and food expenses, paid by JCSO, shall not exceed three nights
Each Missouri college, university or private teacher is permitted to submit candidates for the competition. Also eligible are residents of Missouri studying out-of-state. Below is an entry form for this purpose. If more copies are needed, please make copies or send the necessary information mentioned on the form. Please return this form by January 21, 2009 with a check or money order payable to the Jefferson City Symphony for $30 to pay the audition fee. This fee is non-refundable if you are unable to audition.
The auditions will be Saturday, February 7, 2009, in Jefferson City, Missouri. Richardson Auditorium, on the Lincoln University campus, is the location for the auditions and is also the concert hall for the symphony concert. Each candidate will be expected to play the complete concerto. A second piano will be available for the entrant's accompanist to play the orchestral piano transcription part.
We would like to call attention to this opportunity for all students in Missouri schools and studios. Those students who may not be prepared to compete this year may desire to work on a composition with next year's competition in mind.
The following composition was performed with the Jefferson City Symphony last year and will not be eligible for competition this year: "Piano Concerto," Op. 38 by Samuel Barber. Our 2008 winner was Brendan Kinsella and his teacher at the UMKC Conservatory was Dr. Robert Weirich.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Best wishes to you for a successful year in music.
Sincerely,
Mr. Bruce Connor, Audition Chairman
